“Don’t Call Me CIS!” Cis People Problems

07/12/2023

The term cisgender has its origin in the Latin-derived prefix cis-, meaning ‘on this side of’ or ‘on the same side’, which is the opposite of trans-, meaning ‘across from’ or ‘on the other side of’. (VIEW MORE)

Is Biological Sex Observed or Assigned?

07/03/2024

Nowadays, many institutions, especially medical institutions, refer to a person’s biological sex as their sex assigned at birth. However, many people argue that sex isn’t assigned it’s observed. The big metaphysical question: is biological sex a mind-independent reality or is it just language games all the way down. (view more)

Race: The history of a Word thumbnail

Race: The History of Word

03/19/2023

Historically, race has been an extremely important & commonly used word in the last like 500 years. But, like all words, the history of the word race is complicated. You see, the contemporary definition of the word race just didn’t pop up out of nowhere. It’s changed quite a bit. In this video we explore the etymology and history of this word from Plato & Aristotle all the way to David Hume & Voltaire. (view more)

A picture with the image of Mohammed the prophet of Islam above the sentence, "This is not Muhammad."

This is NOT the Prophet Muhammad

1/25/2023

What does it mean to write “This is not Muhammad” across a bluntly literal and blasphemous picture of the founder of Islam, the Prophet Muhammad? This video on aesthetics follows a similar trajectory to the essay written by Michel Foucault “This is not a Pipe” about a painting by painter Rene Magritte. What is the significance & impact when words are included in artwork? (view more)

Sense, Reference, & Cats | Frege/Russell Debate

01/22/2023

When it comes to language, how does it relate to reality? Signs, sense, reference, definite descriptions or denoting phrases, definite & indefinite articles. How do we understand the sense & reference of fictional objects? What objects do their names refer to, and what type of reality do they have? How is it possible to refer to something that doesn’t exist? What kind of sense could a definite description like “the present emperor of CHINA” have since there is no denotation for “the present emperor of CHINA?” Are statements about non-existent entities true or false? How does our sense of the way language relates to reality change when we speak of the unreal? So, is sense superfluous as Russell says? Or, can sense be rescued beyond the shackles of the nominatum? This video will explore all of these concepts and is itself a sign referring to the famous Frege/Russell debate about Sense & Reference. (view more)

God touching Darrell Brooks

Was It God’s Fault? | Darrell Brooks & the Problem of Evil

11/27/2022

The Waukesha Parade attacker, Darrell Brooks, blamed the Christian God for his actions on November 21st, 2021, when he murdered 6 people and injured over 60 others. This is ultimately the problem of evil in philosophy of religion. Why would a deity which is both omnipotent & omniscient allow for evil to exist? (view more)

What Is Trans-Umbrellism?

11/14/2022

I’m officially coining the term Trans-Umbrellism. Trans-Umbrellism is a trans theory stating that one is trans if they don’t identify with their gender assigned at birth. Trans gender is an umbrella term that covers a wide-variety of gender-variant individuals including: transsexuals, i.e., people who medically transition from one sex to another; non-binary, genderqueer and other individuals with incongruent gender expressions, 3rd gender people from different cultures, crossdressers, drag performers, & MORE!!!!!! Picture of Matt Walsh with the quoted words "Trans Therapy is Immoral!" over a multi-colored background

Is Trans Therapy Immoral? | Reaction to Matt Walsh

11/09/2022

In this episode of strange philosophy of science, I react to conservative commentator and Christian theocrat Matt Walsh’s belief that trans therapy is immoral. Walsh believes that the belief and desire to transition to a different biological sex is a mental illness and allowing trans people to medically transition is fundamentally immoral. I critique his beliefs about trans theory, medicine, biology, and the morality of trans therapy. (view more)

The Lies of Lie-Detector Testing

09/26/2022

In this strange science video, we’re going to look at the lies of the ‘science’ of polygraphy, a.k.a. lie-detector testing. And how from a scientific standpoint it’s absolute bullshit, yet in practice strangely works in some situations. This is part of a series of videos where we examine different hypothesis & theories to determine if they are science or pseudoscience. (view more)

Independence & Dependence Of Self-Consciousness: Lordship & Bondage

9/18/2022

This is the famous quote where Hegel essentially says we only become what we are through recognition and reciprocity with others. One could argue it is the origin of identity politics itself in the modern sense. One’s identity is negotiated, if not outright generated, by the reciprocity of the politics which one exists in. How the ‘Real World’ at Last Became a Myth?

09/07/2022

My interpretation of Nietzsche’s aphorism “How the ‘Real World’ at Last Became a Myth.” In this aphorism, Nietzsche traces out the real/appearance distinction throughout the history of philosophy: from Plato to Nietzsche’s own mature philosophy. (view more)

Does Science Need Philosophy?

8/21/2022

In this episode of Strange Science, we provide a introduction to the philosophy of science in order to ask a simple question: does science still need philosophy? We’ll examine scientific claims about observation, justification, heuristics, and scientific independence from social & political factors. While some really brilliant scientists think philosophy is useless to science, this video will show just a tiny portion of the philosophical presuppositions scientists rely on everyday while they’re sciencing. What is Postmodernism Debunked

Does Ryan Chapman Understand Postmodernism?

07/07/2022

Postmodern philosophy is often misunderstood, partially because it is very nuanced, partially because they appear deliberately obscure, but often because people do not fully understand the presuppositions that postmodernists rely on, nor do they understand the critique of modernity.

In this video, I react to a video by Youtuber Ryan Chapman called “What is Postmodernism?” Chapman attempts to explain postmodernism and show its secret links to so-called Leftist Identity Politics. (view more)
